Round 2025 – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

ROUND is the official name and brand of the ASEAN – Korea Music Festival project. The project is intended to promote exchanges between Korea and ASEAN countries* by utilizing popular music.

“ROUND stands for ‘equal ASEAN countries and Korea,’ and it aims to create an opportunity for all of us to come closer through music. We hope to connect the hearts and minds of music lovers through music, and we hope that people who are separated by borders, language, culture, and customs will find ways to connect, recognize, and understand that we can be closer to each other through our music.”

ROUND LOGO

The logo for the ‘ASEAN – Korea Music Festival’ project features a circle and the initial of “R” from “ROUND,” the official title of the event. This combination symbolizes the unity between ASEAN and Korea. The shape of the capital letter “R” is inspired by the geographical location of ASEAN countries, representing a single, unified ASEAN. By incorporating Korea within a circle, the logo emphasizes the festival’s potential to strengthen the bond between ASEAN and Korea. The primary color of the symbol could be altered annually to reflect the festival’s identity. By utilizing all ASEAN countries’ colors in a neutral manner, the logo offers an opportunity for everyone to feel equal.

*Note: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on August 8, 1967, in Bangkok, Thailand. The Founding Fathers of ASEAN, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, signed the ASEAN Declaration (namely, Bangkok Declaration) to establish the organization. Brunei Darussalam joined ASEAN on January 7, 1984, followed by Vietnam on July 28, 1995. Laos and Myanmar joined on July 23, 1997, and Cambodia joined on April 30, 1999, making up the ten Member States of ASEAN today.

MY ATTENDANCE. I was in attendance at the ROUND concert held on 21 June 2025 at Zepp Kuala Lumpur. My impression of the music performances was that they mainly reflected a semi-traditional rock style, reminiscent of The Rolling Stones‘ with lead singer, Mick Jagger, now updated with Asian-style creativity and talent that reflects the current regional musical taste; to include unique choreography and an Asian variation of traditional rap music.
