2024
Year of the
Wood Dragon

2024 portends to be a significant for ‘all’ Dragons, not just those designated as “Wood”. In Chinese culture, the Dragon holds a special place as an auspicious and extraordinary creature, unparalleled in talent and excellence. The Dragon symbolizes power, nobility, honor, good luck, and success. 2024 is forecasted to bring about opportunities, changes, and challenges. For those seeking a shift in their current trends, this might be the year. Travel is high on my agenda.

My Arrival
Accra, Ghana

Dining Accra, Ghana. I arrived in Accra, Ghana’s capital city, on 26 December 2023 for an eight-day stay, departing 3 January 2024 for my return to Malaysia. In Accra, I will attend the AfroFuture Musical Festival and, while in-country, learn about the people, experience their cuisine, and understand more about their way of life. This is not my first visit to Africa, but my first trip to the west coast of the continent. Before, I was involved with an African Research and Development Initiative that saw me travel to nine nations that included the northern, eastern, and southern regions of Africa for a five-year period. There are four additional postings of my trip on this website.*Note: Photos I took of various art work are used to fill-in those areas where I have no images of cuisine I encountered. Also, I have not included all eating establishments visited.

805 restaurant
airport residential area

Family owned, uniquely positioned, and with an international perspective. I ate twice at the 805 Restaurant, Accra, located within a five minute walk from the Lavender Lodge, my accommodations during my stay in Accra. Each time I visited, the meal and service were outstanding. The quality of food and potions served left nothing to be desired. Highly recommended.

Papillon Restaurant
Kempinski Hotel

The first time I arrived at Kempinski Hotel, was to register and receive the wrist ban needed to enter the various VIP accommodations at the AfroFuture Music Festival. Due to the late arrival of festival personnel, I decided to have lunch at the Papillon Restaurant located within the hotel complex. I was not disappointed. Buffet style, the food was well prepared and plentiful. As is well known, the trouble with partaking of a buffet lies in ‘over stuffing’, for which I am guilty. The food was so good that I decided to return for a second visit.

National Museum
Resturant, Accra

A National Museum staff member recommended this restaurant which is located just behind the main museum complex, and on the same property. Arriving just prior to lunchtime, about 11:30, I found myself to be the lone diner. My breath of experience from traveling in international environments cautions me not to consider dining at an eatery where there are little or no visible customers. However, I decided to chance it. The waiter handed me the menu and, after some discussion, I placed my order. After about five minutes, he came to inform me that my order would take approximately twenty-minutes to prepare, and asked me if that would be ok. I responded in the affirmative. It was well worth the wait. The fish was expertly cooked an well prepared. Quite delicious. My experience was quite different from those listed on the reviews.
