Hai Di Lao Hot Pot Gurney Paragon

Pulau Penang, Malaysia

Hai Di Lao, which means “fishing in the bottom of the sea” in Mandarin, refers to fortune found in the Sichuan Province of mainland China⎯known for its idiosyncratic approach to customer service with customers offered free massages and manicures as they wait for a table; not so here in Penang, Malaysia.

Welcome To
Hai Di Lao
Gurney Paragon

Today was my first experience for lunch eating at the locally well-known, well-received and much appreciated Hai Di Lao restaurant. They have a set menu but most dishes are ala carte, for which there are many, and prepared at your table by an attentive cooking staff. The food was enjoyable but was not of the ‘traditional’ standard of hot, spicy, and savory food expected of Thai cuisine. Special rate for young people weekly from Monday through Friday.
