My Malaysia Garden

Heightening Spiritual Awareness

Gardening involves not only the entire body but also the mind and spirit. It is strenuous but spiritually rewarding because through it one can perceive both the purpose and outcome of human existence. Gardening lays before us human diversity in all its magnificence and wonder and reminds us that we are dutybound to both protect and advance its existence.

HOME GARDENING

DRAFT/PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION – – Upon my return to Malaysia in 2015, after a five-year hiatus, and subsequent property acquisition with a good amount of yard space, I decided to try my hand at gardening. Having no experience with how to grow anything in this region of the world, I was filled with anticipation.

I soon learned that my prior experience with soil and climate conditions on the eastern coast of the United States would be of no use to me in this environment. Even many locals were having an extremely hard time trying to produce prosperous plants when faced with undernourished soil and extremely hot weather. This turned out to be a ‘trial and error’, ‘live and learn’ approach.

All photos were taken by me of plants that now exist in my garden. I estimate an over-all plant survival rate of approximately 85%, the less 15% is my error-adjusted learning curve. Updates will continue and new plantings identified.
