South Korea was awarded the right to host the XXIV Olympiad Summer Olympics, an international multi-sport event celebrated from 17 September to 2 October 1988 in Seoul. When I arrived in Korea during May 1985, massive construction to host the event was well underway. The country had committed a vast amount of resources to ensure that their arrival on the world stage would be unblemished and their Olympics mascot, Hodori, provided assurance. The Cameron Highlands has a diverse population of more than 38,000 people. The residents are mostly entrepreneurs, service industry employees, farm workers, retirees, or government servants. Languages spoken are Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, and English. Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Christianity, and Sikhism are the main religions found here.
