Hout Bay

I took this photo in the same general area as the Home page night photo, but at a lower level. Hout Bay, South Africa

I’m a Former Freelance Photographer in Transition from photographic film to a Digital Medium

My Background.  At age thirteen I was introduced to photography by a family friend who was a professional photographer.  After military service, I became an apprentice in photo-lithography and later achieved ‘Journeymanship’ level in Offset Photo-lithography for Map Reproduction at the US Geological Survey.  Along the way, this included

course work in many aspects of photography, lithographic printing, map reproduction, and interaction with the National Institutes of Health, the Smithsonian Institution, and the National Geographic Society.  I would also freelance to cover national and international conferences, local news events, weddings, and fashion shows.

My personal approach to life is to demonstrate appreciation for human diversity.  In this regard, presented below are a variety of photographs that were taking at various locations during my global travels and residences.  Not necessarily artistic in nature, but some images reflect inherent customs, values, cultures, and traditions of a diverse humanity.  I will update this Post as time permits.

Top:  One morning as I drove along Chapman’s Peak Drive above the city of Hout Bay in South Africa this scene caught my attention. I used large boulders to dramatise the image and lead the eye to scenic beauty (c. 2009).  Left: One of many orientations on display throughout the Forbidden City in Beijing, China; also see tour group photo below and access ‘Collection’ (c. 2011).  Right: This cloud scene caught my attention as I drove along R27 north of Big Bay, Bloubergstrand (a former residence), South Africa in route to one of my favourite hiking destinations,  West Coast National Park (c. 2010).

Telling a Story With More than Words

Beijing Park Performer

On 1 Dec 2011 a rather large crowd gathered to watch this man perform his daily ritual that included singing, and a dance routine that seemingly reflect a form of Chinese martial arts.

Attendee, African National Conference

The African National Conference (ANC) 103rd Anniversary Celebration opened Saturday, 10 Jan 2015, at Green Point Stadium, Cape Town, South Africa.

Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Creating a Different Effect. Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort fronting Marina Bay in Singapore. This photo of the ArtScience Museum was taken in 2011. I wanted to create a photographic image that offset the museum with a quasi-crescent appearance.
